Blizzard dares its richest World of Warcraft players to pour 70K gold down the drain for a meager achievement-

A new achievement tied to World of Warcraft’s annual Valentine’s Day-themed event might be one of the most transparent gold sinks in the MMO’s history. For the next two weeks, players who are carrying around 70,000 gold, can toss it straight into the void for 10 achievement points and the sting of being played.

To get the new achievement, which is called Support Your Local Artisans, players need to speak to an NPC associated with the Artisan’s Consortium and donate a total of 70,000 gold to them. That’s it. Any less than that and you won’t get it.

Players who have already dropped 10,000 gold toward the achievement say they received 10 bonus Love Tokens, the event’s unique currency for buying mounts and other cosmetics. Presumably, you can get 60 more tokens if you pay the re…

Lawn wars- Garden tractor manufacturers, plumbing providers and more are lobbying against the US military’s right to repair its equipment-

The right to repair our devices is a bit of a hot-button issue these days, what with the European Parliament strengthening rules to protect consumer rights, and the odd public spat between major tech manufacturers and repair guide providers. You’d think, however, that the US military would have no trouble ensuring that the equipment it buys from third party manufacturers was able to be repaired and maintained in-house.

Not so, according to a document obtained by 404 media. Multiple manufacturers that currently sell to the US military are lobbying against legislation that would require military contractors to make it easier to repair their equipment, which strikes as something of a bold move when you’re talking about standing in the way of the US Government and the most well-funded…

Be a cat god in space and build planets by placing tiles in Nekokami-

In a far-future world where sci-fi cats rule the universe, you’re responsible for making worlds with the help of spiritual technology as an employee of Nekokami Co. By placing tiles to increase the size of biomes you empower them to get larger and more complex, providing more habitat for the Kami, the nature spirits that empower your efforts. Also, for whatever reason, all the most powerful gods seem to be cats too.

Nekokami looks like it’ll be intriguing for fans of tile-placing games like Dorfromantik, though with a more objective focused set of challenges and puzzles rather than open-ended score chasing.

The currently released demo, called Nekokami: Internship, has you get into the groove as a world-crafting servant of the spirits. It has about three or four hours of game…

Jennell Jaquays, legendary designer who shaped both tabletop and videogames, has died-

Tributes are flooding in across the games industry following the death of game designer, artist, and transgender rights activist Jennell Jaquays, who died yesterday of complications caused by Guillain–Barré syndrome.

Even if you aren’t familiar with Jaquays’ name, she almost certainly had a hand in something you love over the course of her long career in TTRPG and videogame design. Jaquays helped shaped pen and paper roleplaying from the ’70s onwards, creating and publishing Dungeons and Dragons adventures in The Dungeoneer—the D&D fanzine she co-founded—before designing and illustrating licensed modules like Dark Tower and Caverns of Thracia.

In fact, “Jaquaying the dungeon,” is a term still used to describe the process of improving the de…

On the off-chance anyone still cares, Overwatch 2 story missions begin soon-

Overwatch 2, the hero shooter of choice for people who haven’t heard of an obscure little indie novelty called Team Fortress 2, has been teasing players with a mysterious character called the Enigma. The hacker has appeared in games and streams to drop hints about the upcoming Invasion story missions, before being revealed in a recent reveal trailer. Spoiler, it’s John Cena.

Those story missions will feature the notorious Null Sector attacking notable world cities Rio de Janeiro, Gothenburg, and I guess Toronto as well. As civilians flee, the violent omnic liberation group begins rounding up robots and the heroes of the Overwatch task force are dispatched to fight back.

The Invasion story missions will be available this month. As Blizzard explains, “On August 10, answer our …

NYT Connections puzzle hint and answers for Sunday, September 10 (#91)-

There’s a hint for every one of today’s Connections groups ready and waiting for you just below, giving you just the nudge you need to win. Or if you’re running out of guesses and need a guaranteed save, hop on over to the answers to the September 10 (#91) puzzle. It’s entirely up to you.

Today’s Connections went from smooth to what felt like a full stop at the halfway point, the link between remaining words something of a mystery to me. They would’ve probably stayed that way too if I hadn’t had enough spare guesses remaining to puzzle out that final eight—that was a close one.

NYT Connections hint today: Sunday, September 10

Yellow: These are all animals, specifically the sort you’re most likely to see in a zoo. Unless you’re reading this from…

Sign up now to test tabletop-inspired RPG For the King 2 for free later this week-

The tabletop-inspired roguelike RPG For the King made a very good impression when it arrived in 2018, and the latest trailer for the sequel also looked promising when it arrived in February. Of course, “looked promising” doesn’t always mean much when it comes to how a game actually plays, so the good news is you’ll have a shot at trying it yourself in a beta set to begin later this week.

For the King 2’s closed beta will get underway at 10 am PT/1 pm ET on May 10, and run until the same time on May 16. The beta test will include the first of five adventures planned for the game, with six character classes—blacksmith, scholar, hunter, stableboy, herbalist, and alchemist (the last two unlockable through gameplay)—and support for both singleplayer and multiplayer. It will…

One modder is bringing back Resident Evil 2’s classic style by adding over 1,700 camera angles to the Remake-

I first played Resident Evil 2 on my cousin’s PlayStation when I was way too young to be doing so—10-year-old me had no business walking around Racoon City at that age. Back then, the grainy images and bloody zombies felt like they would jump out of the screen at me, and the lack of directional control, thanks to the fixed camera angles, was too much for my tiny brain to handle.

While I can’t say for sure whether my brain has gotten any bigger, I’d like to think that if I were in the same circumstances now, I’d handle myself a lot better and wouldn’t just disintegrate in terror at the sound of Mr X’s footsteps. And as if my prayers have been answered, I can finally test out that theory as modder Enveloping Sounds released a couple of videos showcasing their work on a <…
